Cody Allison 186x255Attorney Cody Allison is proud to be a Tennessee native.  Cody is a 1994 graduate of The University of Tennessee and 1999 graduate of Mississippi College Law School.  Cody also leads in administering the Tennessee Bar Exam to prospective Tennessee attorneys.  Cody is honored to serve as the Chief Proctor for the State of Tennessee’s Bar Exam, through the Tennessee Board of Law Examiners.  Additionally, Cody recently was certified by the Tennessee Supreme Court (Rule 21) as an Attorney Mentor for the State of Tennessee. In this role, Cody mentors younger attorneys on behalf of the State of Tennessee regarding all areas of their practice.

He is admitted to every State and Federal Court in Tennessee and to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 6th Circuit. Cody was the lead attorney in the reported Sixth Circuit decision of Hance v. Norfolk Southern Railway Company, 571 F.3d 511; 2009 U.S. App. LEXIS 14233; 2009 FED App. 0224P (6th Cir.) in which his client, a military reservist, was wrongfully terminated from his job in violation of the Uniformed Services Employees Reemployment Rights Act (USERRA).  This case opinion has been cited in numerous cases throughout the United States and has been the subject of law review articles.

Cody provides representation to individual claimants in ERISA long-term disability cases throughout the United States.

Throughout his 18 year legal career, Cody has successfully represented numerous individuals in matters involving long-term disability claims (ERISA and non-ERISA claims), life insurance claims (ERISA and non-ERISA), serious injury, and general litigation matters.

Cody and his wife, Dr. Melanie Allison, who is from Murfreesboro, Tennessee, have two children. He and his family enjoy bicycle riding and going to the beach.  Cody has also been an on-air announcer for the Tennessee Titans of the NFL for 16 years. As a part of his role, Cody provides live in-game reports and post-game player interviews for the more than 60 stations that carry Titans Radio throughout the Southeastern United States, and on Sirius Radio.  Cody has broadcast live from the sideline at over 315 consecutive NFL games, including Super Bowl XXXIV, the 2000 & 2002 AFC Championship games and the 1999 Music City Miracle playoff win over the Buffalo Bills.  Cody is also a former member of the Vol Radio Network for football and basketball and won the Associated Press award for Best Sports Story in 1994 by covering the Tennessee Volunteers signing of Peyton Manning.

Sam Payne186x255Attorney Samuel (Sam) Payne is a Nashville native. Sam is a graduate (Valedictorian) of FRA; an honors graduate of Vanderbilt University and top graduate (Order of the Coif) of Vanderbilt University Law School. While in law school, Sam was a member of one of the law reviews, serving on the Vanderbilt Journal of Transnational Law. Sam is licensed to practice law in Tennessee and Alabama. Sam is also admitted to Federal Court in Tennessee.

Sam brings 20 plus years of experience in complex civil litigation to Cody Allison & Associates, PLLC. Sam’s impressive resume includes cases involving claimants’ ERISA long-term disability and retirement benefits, malpractice insurance defense, complex business litigation, and labor and employment (L & E) litigation and training.

Sam is a former partner with several litigation firms in Nashville, as well as a tax litigator with the Tennessee Attorney General’s office. Sam’s wealth of diverse legal experience is a great asset to the clients of Cody Allison & Associates.

Lee C. Williams 186x255Attorney Lee Willams is a Jackson, MS native. Lee is a graduate of Southern Mississippi University and Mississippi College Law School. While in law school Lee was a member of the Moot Court Board and was selected to participate in the prestigious Conrad Duberstein National Moot Court Competition.  Following law school, Lee completed an internship with Judge Cheryl Blackburn, as well as the University of Mississippi Medical Center.  While at Ole Miss Medical Center Lee worked in the Technology Transfer Division handling issues involving copyright and patent. Lee is also admitted to State and Federal Court in Tennessee.  Following these internships Lee went to work for a well-known, multi-state insurance and employment defense firm.

Lee was recently appointed to serve as legal counsel to the Nashville Junior Chamber of Commerce.

Lee brings a wealth of experience in complex civil litigation to Cody Allison & Associates, PLLC. Lee’s resume includes experience handling complex federal and state court cases involving insurance claims and employment rights issues.

Lauren Travis is a Chattanooga, Tennessee native.  Lauren earned her undergraduate degree and law degree from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville, graduating cum laude from the University of Tennessee College of Law in 2013. While in law school, Lauren was the recipient of the College of Law Scholarship and received academic awards for her studies in Advanced Trial Practice and Labor Law.

Prior to joining Cody Allison & Associates, PLLC, Lauren was an insurance defense litigator with a boutique law firm in the Nashville area. She has also practiced in the areas of business litigation and complex tort litigation. Since joining Cody Allison & Associates, she practices in the area of ERISA disability insurance claims.

Lauren and her husband have one child and reside in Hendersonville, Tennessee.

Barb KRAUTHEIM 186x255Barb is an employee benefits specialist. Specifically, she has been working with ERISA and NON-ERISA long-term disability plans for the past fourteen years of her paralegal career. She has a total of twenty-five years of experience assisting with cases at the state, federal, and appellate levels, including workers’ compensation and general liability claims.

Barb’s compassion and understanding are just some of the rare qualities that she possesses. Her skills, experience, honesty, and genuine interest in helping people have enabled her to build a long and successful career and make her a favorite with our clients.



Whitney grew up in Meridian, Mississippi and graduated from Meridian High School in 2001. She received her Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from Millsaps College in Jackson, Mississippi. In June of 2007, Whitney relocated to Austin, Texas where she managed the shoe department of a local outfitter retail company. After several years of enjoying life in Texas, Whitney moved to Nashville, Tennessee to pursue a career in the legal field. Whitney attended Kaplan Career Institute and earned her Paralegal Certification in 2013.

Whitney enjoys reading, outdoor activities such as hiking and swimming, and listening to live music. Whitney enjoys volunteer work and is actively involved in many community activities in the Sylvan Park neighborhood in which she lives.



Cassie Shockley 186x255Cassie grew up in Middle Tennessee. She received her B.S. degree in Behavioral Sciences from Middle Tennessee State University in 2008 and a J.D. from Nashville School of Law in 2013.  Cassie worked for several years as a case manager with a well known Franklin, TN law firm. In 2015 she brought that experience to Cody Allison & Associates, PLLC where she handles the day to day management and prosecution of insurance claims on behalf of plaintiffs.

Rick Adkins 186x255As the Director of Special Projects and Medical Records, Rick Adkins brings 15 years of management experience with a Fortune 500 retailer and over 5 years of experience in the insurance industry to Cody Allison & Associates, PLLC.

Rick’s attention to detail is one of his many assets.  He helps keep the day to day operations at the firm moving efficiently.

When he is not helping clients, Rick and his wife enjoy attending various sporting events in Middle Tennessee. They  can always be seen cheering on the Predators and Titans.
